High Power Rocketry

Photo of twelve foot rocket

Apparently husband and wife both have to agree on the annual Christmas card photo. Laura will go to heaven for tolerating some of my hobbies.

To support my interest in high-powered rocketry I have an FCC Amateur Extra class license (call sign KV4WU), a high-explosives license, High Power Rocketry Level 3 certifications from both Tripoli and the NAR, and belong to the VAST rocketry chapter.

Below is a video of the above rocket launching, from both ground station and onboard camera views.  The rocket is 12.5 feet tall and weighs about 80lbs with the motor. That's my oldest son standing next to it as I arm it. The motor develops about 500lbs of thrust on liftoff.
